This TV was evaluated with a couple of criticisms by others in mind. The TV picked up a number of HD channels in this area (Washington DC) after auto scanning. The antenna provided (the telescopic single pole type) seemed adequate and the picture on most channels was clear. While using the set in the house, a larger antenna was used with better reception.
The sound level is low, since the speakers are (obviously) small, but it was, again, more than adequate for the kind of close viewing inherent with a small portable set.
Complaints of poor reception by others seems to be based on proximity to TV stations, although my suburban/indoor location pulled in most channels with varying quality requiring antenna manipulation.
Portable operation with the rechargeable battery varied in some locations, but was, for the most part, quite good. Like most portable devices with small antennae results may vary, but this set worked better than a previous (non HD)portable I owned and had a bigger screen and better quality picture.
