I've been searching for a small digital TV for my bathroom due to the digital transition. There are not many on the market and most have not had good reviews. I bought this thinking I was taking a chance and have been very pleasantly surprised. It does not work with the accompanying "rabbit ear" antenna - cannot pull in the stations sufficiently with it, but it works great when attached to our cable system. The picture is excellent, sound is fine too. It's sturdier than some of the others on the market and is perfect for a very small space, such as a bathroom, kitchen, or maybe small home office. I'm not sure what would happen if it was hooked up to a strong outside antenna. I think it would depend on the strength of the reception and quality of the antenna. I travel to Erie, PA every year for vacation and stay in a cottage. Knowing that my usual 5" B&W would be useless this year, I went in search of a new digital. I chose the Haier over the Axion because of the features on the remote and the fact that others said the Axion battery could not be removed. At home, I scanned with the attached antenna and rec'd 1 channel then again with my home's roof top antenna and rec'd every channel (about 30 total) that I get through the digital box. I attached an antenna that came with one of our TV's that extends about 3 ft. and rec'd a few more channels but still not as many as with the roof top antenna.

Before going to Erie, I bought 25 ft. of coax cable at BIG LOTS for $4 to have the capability of putting the antenna on the roof of the cottage. In Erie, and after placing the old TV antenna on the cottage roof, I rec'd 11 channels. The major ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, & FOX and their extensions and was very pleased.

The good: The TV has a nice picture, good graphics, an intuitive menu, and a well designed remote -- very nice for such a little TV! It's lightweight and good looking. When the TV is plugged in to the cable tv system, it gets plenty of channels and the picture looks great. It's only 720 resolution, and the aspect ratio mode is "wide" or "normal" only, but it has lots of built-in personal picture and sound adjustments that are a nice feature.

The bad: Horrible over-the-air reception. With the single rabbit ear that comes with it, I couldn't get a single station in my area. I decided to purchase a separate antenna hoping that would help, and now I get TWO stations, both of which come in horribly. I doubt that's so much a problem with the TV but with the new broadcast technology, and highly dependent on how many over-the-air stations you get in your particular area. Back in the old days of analog TV, you could adjust the rabbit ears to get in stations even if they came in fuzzy. With the new digital TV technology, I haven't found that I'm able to do that. Stations pixellate, sound stutters -- it's unwatchable if it doesn't come in clearly.

That old set got the six basic station here in the Sacramento Valley with old built in pull up antenna, This thing got one channel intermittently. ...a very SHORT while. I needed a small TV that I could carry with me on my job as an AV, video and CATV services owner. I do a lot of work with school districts, designing and installing their CATV systems. A small TV comes in handy when I need to look at the output of a combiner or a wall drop. When this unit arrived, I opened it up and set it up as I'd need to use it. I did an off-air scan just to see how it picked up the local HD signals. Not bad, as it found most of them, even with the supplied telescoping antenna. So, I tucked it away and waited until I needed to take it to work with me. The first time that I needed to look at a signal in a school's headend, it worked OK. I turned it off, then a few minutes later, I needed to use it again. It came on for about 2 seconds, then went blank. No power LED, no nothing. I checked the AC adapter's output with a voltmeter...it was dead. I found another 12 volt supply that I had, cut the cord from the Haier's supply and quickly spliced it into the new supply's cable, checking to make sure that the polarity at the plug was correct. I slid the power switch to "on", expecting to see the power LED come on, but...nothing. I checked my new power supply...it was OK. Tried again...nothing. I got about 3 minutes of service out of my TV, and now it's RIP. I can't return it because the original power supply has been tossed, and I've dismantled the TV to see if I could repair it. The power switch is junk, but that's not the problem. I did get the power LED to come up a couple of times, but it was only briefly.
