I ordered this tv on 07Jun and recd it 15Jun. After reading the instructions I found my Batt was already hooked up. I attached the dipole antenna that came with the set to determine what it could do and it pulled in a few stations. As I was previously using a converter with my portable analog tv I knew what stations were available to me. I connected my Radio Shack rabbit ears with UHF antenna and had trouble getting one station or getting it without another. After about 6 tries moving my antenna to different positions I got all my available channels programed into the set. Now, I sometimes have to adjust the antenna a bit depending on the channel I choose. It doesn't seem to be quite as strong as the converter for holding a station. However, I purchased it for my camper and the size is perfect and it's flat enough to hang on the wall with a home made hanger. The color is great, the sound is real good [2 speakers in the front], it's very easy to program and adjust. When you send it a command to turn on or change channels you need to give it a few seconds to execute, so patience is in order. After fully charging the batt I ran the unit off of it and it operated just over 2hrs and it's a snap to recharge. The remote is, as others have commented, the kind you have to point directly at the set. The buttons are pretty easy to manipulate even with fatter fingers. As a caveat I live in an area with good signals. Well...our local TV station posted several links of various portable bat op TVs we could possibly buy to have here in strong storm and hurricane land. Now I can tell you I already miss my battery op. anolog 8 D batteries, little NOW VINTAGE TV-batteries die, just put in more! I dont have a converter box, I live rather rural, tho Im near a major city (TAMPA) they still wont bring cable/dsl/fios to us rural folk out here in Plant City-there is some, but its mostly around the city and for people who live close to the road. So were stuck with satilitte TV-which isnt bad, but there is LOTS of RAIN n CLOUD fade and when it goes out it can stay out for 30 min-to 2 hours-not good during severe weather. So even tho I have a generator that will run my TV n sat box...I would still have no picture during bad storms. ANd I have a weather radio...but I like seeing radar and that's a big drain on your laptop when your stuck with a 5GB wifi card becasue there is no high speed out here and dial up wont allow you to load radar intensive pages. I needed an alternative. I was skeptical ordering one of these considering where I live, I figured Id be one of those people who would be lucky to get one station. Im in the middle of a cow pasture. I tried to look up my location on AtennaWeb, no luck. So I took a chance. Well it arrived, after reading the other review (Fantastic) I quickly realized I could figure this out without even looking at the directions. I screwed in the antenna it came with and it wouldnt stay tight...unless you propped it up against a wall. Not good. Couldnt get ANY channels. Figured right, considering I live in no where ville in the middle of a cow pasture I expected this. Started to pout. Went and got the REAL rabbit ears, screwed them in...walked outside next to a cow and rescanned. Got 1 channel. Rescanned 2 more times. Now Im happy to report I have 26 PLUS channels-channels I didnt even know where out there! ALl work in the house now too, tho I do have to adjust the rabbit ears on certain channels. I get 2 out of the 3 major networks! YAY! and the one I dont get I dont really want. The picture is VERY CLEAR and pretty-makes my big TV look sick! It comes with a nifty little remote WITH BATTERIES (thats nice of them) and a car charger too!-and cords so you can hook right to your cable or sat. box.-No power? Plug it in to your cig liter.! The only bad things I can say are the antenna it comes with-CHUCK IT-its worthless. When you change channels sometimes you have to give them a minute to come in-its not INSTANT like analog. If they dont come in all u have to do is move the antenna. Now the inst. book. A.) Dont even bother reading it. B.) If you do be prepared for one of those BADLY translated Chinese to English deals-its rather comical but not very helpful. If it wasnt for the antenna, not being able to purchase a seperate back up battery and the poorly written inst. manual, I'd give it 5 stars. Brought this through the analog to digital conversion, and aside from rescanning a few times, it works great. As other reviews indicated, the enclosed antenna is inadequate for a few reasons, but since I had a couple of extra antennae from the purchase of my large TV, I tried them both. Oddly enough, in my market (NYC), the unpowered antenna works better.
For me the best thing is that it runs on 18 watts, versus the 100 watts the big TV runs on.

WOW! This thing is really bad at picking up on air TV. I have tried every room in the house, every possible length and position of the antenna and I have not gotten a glimmer of local TV stations. I have used the auto scan and I have keyed channel numbers in with the remote. Nothing! This thing has to have the weakest tuner in existence.
I went out and drove around town stopping frequently and running an auto scan. One time I received a channel, but, then I moved the TV about a quarter inch and it broke up. When I tried to move back to what I thought was my original position and got the "Failed To Receive Broadcast" message that now is so familiar to me.
In my opinion this thing is of no value at all and I am going to return it and get a real, portable TV.
I reluctantly had to give this thing one star in order to submit my review. It's not worth any stars.

Ok, this Tv suffers from a poor antenna (I just left the antenna in the box). I plug mine into a good HDTV antenna and I get over 30 stations where I live. If I plug it into my home cable, I get all the stations as expected (even the cable analog is picked up). It actually has a good picture. Speakers could be slightly better, but I am happy. I'm actually thinking of buying another one of these for the bathroom because I like it so much. The remote has volume and channel changing ability (buttons are a little small) but works. There can be a slight delay sometimes pressing a button to actions on the TV (but nothing big). I would have liked the RF input to be in the back of the TV instead of the side so that the cable would not stick out so much from the right side. These would make great gifts for friends, just do not count on the antenna that comes in the box (it is just terrible). One negative I do not like is that during the auto scan, it list all the channels (even ones it cannot pick up). You have to let it finish and then manually tell it to hide stations that are "blank" or it has no signal on. Other 7" TVs like the Viore actually filter out all "blank" channels like it should. I kept the Haier over the Viore, because it could detect my cable companies analog stations as well as the digital. The Viore could not detect my analog stations at all. If you do not care about using the included TV antenna in the box, this is really a great TV for the money and size. Looks great in my office. but found that you can hook it to your IPOD (if video capable) and show the movies on this without anything being plug into an electrical outlet!! How good is that for tent camping! Tested battery got 2-1/2 hours of use with brightness up.Images I took look a bit soft but the pic on the TV is sharp and clear and has different modes, soft, warm, cool, etc. Great TV and with an IPOD you have a couple of hours of use. 'Unit seems well made everything is tight and the case a bit rubberized, i already dropped it once, no problem. 'Remote is a bit small for big hands that's all i can see wrong.

I got what I wanted when I purchased this TV. It's just the right size and the picture is great. It does not tune in when traveling on the road. I knew that when I purchased it. I have owned this cute portable tv for two weeks and enjoyed it every minute. It has a clear picture, program guide for digital stations, and closed caption. I feel obliged to write a review to share with you about this TV.

Reception:

Many users complained about poor reception on this TV. My advice is to change a better quality antenna. I only get 1 channel with the included antenna. I can get 20 channels with an antenna from a Pinnacle USB tv tuner. This antenna has a 2.5" magnetic base. It is very similar to Axion portable tv's external antenna. Sound issue:

I agree with most reviewers here. The sound is tinny on this portable tv. But after hours of research before purchase, I found it is a common problem for almost all portable TVs and even many regular LCD TVs. To keep TVs slim and small, the manufacturers have to use small speakers which compromise the sound quality to a great degree.

Why I choose Haier as opposed to Axion?

Because Haier has a replaceable battery and Axion's battery is solded inside. And we know that batteries do not live long, usually 3-5 years. Batteries can leak if it is not taken out after drain.

Suggestions to the manufacturer

Include a case for this portable TV to make it really portable, free from scratches.

I bought this TV unit to place on my desk next to my computer screen (22" LCD) while I play, game, and do homework. It picked up all 80 of the Cable Stations provided by Time Warner to my school. It even picked up the 3 Local Stations (NBC, FOX, and CBS) that also provide Digital signals through basic cable. The 3 digital stations (in addition to their standard counterparts) are shown at 480p (max resolution for device) with perfect audio quality. It even picked up the QAM Encrypted channels between 75-130. It shows them as 75-3, 75-4, etc. I have not gotten them to work, but this is because the Cable Company does not offer them to our University.

The TV by default Zooms (crops) 4:3 programs fullscreen (16:9) on the device. It actually stretches the video, but the screen is so small that you won't notice the additional width of people or objects. (With horizontal sidebars your talking maybe 1/2" on either side of the TV). The Digital channels (QAM and ATSC either over cable or air) are shown only in the native (at 480p) aspect ratios (you can't change them like you can the rest of the channels). The cropping\zooming will become less of an issue as more programs are shown at 16:9 even over standard definition cable.

Did I mention this LCD TV works as a PC Monitor!!! If your TV offers a S-video or Composite (Yellow color cable) out (which most modern graphics cards have, or a 99cent adapter for a laptop S-video port) you can treat this LCD TV as a second monitor for your computer or laptop. Its only 640x480, but that is plenty of room to put your Buddy List, Twitter Feed, Email Client, etc. I keep iTunes in the window so that I can play with my music while I'm playing a game, or writing a paper. Just note that the refresh rate on this TV\monitor is only 30hz (so visible flicker when displaying text)

I have had success hooking this device up to a N64, DVD Player, My Computer (via a S-video to Y-composite adapter), and my Zune. About the Zune, because the Zune 8 GB Digital Media Player (Black) does not have speakers, simply plug in your Video\Audio cable from your Zune to this device and you have a portable display (3x larger) with stereo sound with a good 1hr and half of battery charge. I'm debating bringing my Battery Backup system (860VA) to the beach with my lounge chair, which would give me 40 minutes of N64 playing while hooked up to this device.

The only thing to note is that I have not had success with over-the-air signals. However, my campus is on the ocean (literally) and about 5 miles from town, I plan on bringing the included telescoping antennae

I was going to buy a iPod Touch but chose this instead, way worth it as I have a Kindle, Netbook, Smartphone, and Zune (which does everything a Touch\iPhone can).

I returned this prouduct. I found that the reception was poor even when I was sitting approximately 6 miles from the broadcast antennas in the Philly area. Even when I did get reception I only received two channels which is a poor performance in a major market with more than 10 local channels. When I did receive a signal it kept cutting in an out. Kinda defeats the purpose of a "portable" tv if you have to carry around an auxillary antenna with a boost amplifier. I purchased this telvision about two months ago for "on the go" use. The anntena screws into the jack on the right hand side of the t.v. and does not fold flat against it as a result-there are clips on the top of the t.v. that are intended to hold it(after you unscrew it), but these are to small, and the anntena tends to pop out unexpectedly as a result. When the anntena is in its jack, adjusting it will cause it to come loose, requiring extra attention to tighten it in place. Received my 7" Haier in late May. Set it up immediately and was disappointed with the number of local stations it was able to pull in.

Knowing that digital can be more difficult to receive, I recently purchased a good set of rabbit ears and proceeded to reprogram it. It did better but still not worthwhile.

I then set-up two separate TV's with the same rabbit ears. One TV was already digital (a 19" Sharp with built in digital tuner), the 2nd TV was an old analog (12" Sony). We have a converter box for the Sony and use it in our bathroom where we can not easily run our cable system. Both TV's worked well and pulled in every local station including several that the Haier could not.

I am returning the Haier and will stick with one of the other two TV's in event of power failure (we live in an area of Florida that has frequent power outages). I will power the other TV's with a 110V battery back up system we have for emergency.

Some day, when one of the good manufacturers make a decent battery powered digital TV, I will gladly buy it. We had two (2) battery powered analog ones we just stopped using when the analog stations went off the air (a Sony and a Panasonic). I live just outside the old city limits of Louisville before it became Metro, and inside the old inner expressway circling the city. I returned the Haier for lack of reception.

The unit begins by searching for stations and building a database of them, before it can receive any. With the supplied antenna, the unit failed to find any stations to build a database. ("No Database") After connection to a cable, it found plenty of stations and built a database, and of course received perfectly. However, after the cable was replaced by the supplied antenna, it failed to receive any stations in the database. ("No Reception")

Unless I visit my Canadian relatives (before 2011) my former analog hand-held b&w TV isn't much good anymore...and I must say that this 7" Haier portable is a welcome replacement.

What I like is the clear picture, the general ease of use, the capabilities of adjusting picture and other settings to very personal levels, and it has pretty good sound too.

What I'm not too crazy about, is that the whip antenna supplied with the unit is next to useless. The "antenna-farm" for this area is about 10 miles from my house. The "whipper" just won't capture much of a useable signal on most channels, so I've been forced to purchase separate antennas. (see my other reviews) Also, the unit's tuner, while receiving both analog & digital broadcasts...seems to lack a bit of sensitivity, whereby I've had to go to a stronger antenna, than what I was using on a 13" 1980-something Radio Shack TV (with converter) to get the same channels on the Haier.

I guess the battery is ok. 2 hrs runtime? -- 6 hrs to charge. And by the way, the battery charge light go ON, EVERYtime the AC adapter is plugged in! I just hope if left plugged-in (with full charge--showing a green light) that it doesn't OVERcharge.

I've had this for about 1 month and am very pleased with it. It seems that most reviewers are dissatisfied with the antenna/reception. Since the transition to digital transmission, it is my understanding that the signals are sent using UHF. I believe that the supplied antenna is a VHF type, which causes so many people to have problems. Remember the "old" UHF loop antennas that used to come with televisions? (Approx. 10" round metal about the size of coat hanger wire) This is all one needs now to receive the digital signals. I use an 18" coax cable, a 75-300 ohm converter, and a UHF loop antenna with my Haier 7" tv with excellent results. Online, you can purchase these items for easily under $5. The tv also works great when plugged into a wall jack for a rooftop antenna. (Combination UHF/VHF that is 30 years old!) The UHF loop antenna setup works equally as well outside as it does inside.
I also use the same setup with a 22" wall-mounted flat LCD screen in my house. The only thing different is that I used a longer cable so I could extend the loop antenna up near the ceiling so that the signal wouldn't get blocked by people moving about the house.

This is a great little TV. Living in Kansas and dealing with powerful storms, we experience power outages. This little gem lets us stay informed. Because we live in a rural area, far from broadcast stations, we only receive 2 channels on the antenna included, but hooked up to our outside antenna we receive 14. I purchased this TV seven months ago to prepare for the changeover to digital--I needed a very small set in a place with no cable connection. At first it received a number of stations and the reception, although not good, was marginally acceptable. Since the changeover to digital one month ago, I have been unable to receive ANY station other than a small religious channel I've never even heard of -- this despite the fact that I live in a major city! I contacted customer service at Haier and they called my attention to the fact that the product brochure warns that "not all channels may be available, depending on location." They did not address the fact that, save one, NO channel might be available. They further informed me that (1) they do not service this product, and (2) they cannot provide a list of local repair shops for Haier. (I was told to look in the yellow pages, and there is no entry for Haier there.) In theory, my warranty still covers replacement parts but, without anyone to check the set, I am out of luck. (The instructions state to be very careful not to turn the antenna counter clock wise so we were and this is not where it broke.) I've been searching for a small digital TV for my bathroom due to the digital transition. There are not many on the market and most have not had good reviews. I bought this thinking I was taking a chance and have been very pleasantly surprised. It does not work with the accompanying "rabbit ear" antenna - cannot pull in the stations sufficiently with it, but it works great when attached to our cable system. The picture is excellent, sound is fine too. It's sturdier than some of the others on the market and is perfect for a very small space, such as a bathroom, kitchen, or maybe small home office. I'm not sure what would happen if it was hooked up to a strong outside antenna. I think it would depend on the strength of the reception and quality of the antenna. My little used analog 2" TV went by the wayside when digital TV came out. I looked at all that was out there and decided on the Haier HLT71 TV. It does have a replacement battery so it CAN be replaced when it needs to. It picked up about 30 over the air TV stations locally, but it did not get the two big ones, ABC and CBS.
When I hooked a cable from the TV to the outlet in the wall it picked up them along with a total of 38 local stations here in Houston, Tx.

When the power goes out I can turn it on and find out what is going on. I remember one time the power went out and I got out my windup radio. I travel to Erie, PA every year for vacation and stay in a cottage. Knowing that my usual 5" B&W would be useless this year, I went in search of a new digital. I chose the Haier over the Axion because of the features on the remote and the fact that others said the Axion battery could not be removed. At home, I scanned with the attached antenna and rec'd 1 channel then again with my home's roof top antenna and rec'd every channel (about 30 total) that I get through the digital box. I attached an antenna that came with one of our TV's that extends about 3 ft. and rec'd a few more channels but still not as many as with the roof top antenna.

Before going to Erie, I bought 25 ft. of coax cable at BIG LOTS for $4 to have the capability of putting the antenna on the roof of the cottage. In Erie, and after placing the old TV antenna on the cottage roof, I rec'd 11 channels. The major ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, & FOX and their extensions and was very pleased.

The good: The TV has a nice picture, good graphics, an intuitive menu, and a well designed remote -- very nice for such a little TV! It's lightweight and good looking. When the TV is plugged in to the cable tv system, it gets plenty of channels and the picture looks great. It's only 720 resolution, and the aspect ratio mode is "wide" or "normal" only, but it has lots of built-in personal picture and sound adjustments that are a nice feature.

The bad: Horrible over-the-air reception. With the single rabbit ear that comes with it, I couldn't get a single station in my area. I decided to purchase a separate antenna hoping that would help, and now I get TWO stations, both of which come in horribly. I doubt that's so much a problem with the TV but with the new broadcast technology, and highly dependent on how many over-the-air stations you get in your particular area. Back in the old days of analog TV, you could adjust the rabbit ears to get in stations even if they came in fuzzy. With the new digital TV technology, I haven't found that I'm able to do that. Stations pixellate, sound stutters -- it's unwatchable if it doesn't come in clearly.

I purchased this set to use on a boat with the cigarette lighter adapter....Did a program search and could only receive 1 channel....I was on the water approx 10 miles from Baltimore. I should have been able to pick up at least 6 channels as I did on my old analog television. I then purchased a digital antenna but still one channel.
