To be honest the rave review that has been here forever made me leery. Nothing is that good. I just received my TV and here's my take on it.
The delivery has been an issue. Along with others I placed my order at the end of September with a 3-4 week delivery noted. A week later the delivery was shown to be 2-3 weeks. About the time mine should have shipped I received an email stating December 2. This turned out to be the delivery date, including ground transportation from AZ. The frustration with deliveries probably should be directed at Haier. I'm guessing they had issues meeting ship dates. This is sad because this really is a nice little TV. (My TV was manufactured in October '08 so it doesn't appear to be an import issue.)
I set mine up in a few minutes. While the instructions are a bit thin, they do provide adequate step by step instructions for start-up. My set picked up all the local channels in analog and digital (HD and SD) using only the stick antennae supplied. This picture is fuzzy for the analog channels but, who cares? They're going away in a couple of months anyway. The digital pictures are clear and as is the sound. It's as good of an LCD picture as I've ever seen.
I purchased my set, as all others have, to replace a small portable analog set. My initial reason was to have a battery powered TV in the event of a power outage, seeing the set I will probably set it in my bedroom to catch the ends of shows in bed.
If I had to pick a negative, it's that the antennae, component and power plugs are in the sides of the TV instead of the back. All in all, a good product for a decent price.
Update: After a full charge the battery lasted about 2 hours. The stand-by light on the front of the unit will double as a battery charge indicator if the main power is turned off. The light will dim as the battery charges, going out completely when the battery has a full charge. While there is no battery meter, a low battery icon will flash on the screen when the battery is low.
I turn my unit off with the main power switch and it never loses it's programming, it even remembers the last channel watched. The reviewer complaining it has to be reprogammed must have had some other issue causing that problem.
I have not found how to delete channels that are found during auto-scan that I do not wish to watch; I don't know if this is even possible but will keep looking.
I've had the TV for about a week now and am very happy with the purchase.Get more detail about Haier HLT71 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV.
